Construction at Harvey Mudd College's Teaching and Learning Building is underway! The project's innovative voided concrete slab system, Bubbledeck, makes for a strong visual as the building rises. BubbleDeck employs a grid of recycled plastic spheres sandwiched between layers of reinforcing welded wire steel and an internal lattice girder to optimize structural performance and decrease slab weight. The Teaching and Learning Building is the first above-ground building in the United States to use this system. Read about on the Arch Daily and Fabrikator blogs. Watch students "Get on the Ball" as they make their mark on the construction process.
