Boora worked with Old Dominion University and local partner Moseley Architects to provide expansion space for the University’s Music, Dance and Theater Departments. Originally conceived of as a single addition to the existing Diehn Fine and Performing Arts building, the project evolved into a free-standing theater building - Monarch Theatre - and a music and dance expansion to Diehn.

The new Monarch Theater includes a flexible studio theater seating 132 – 204, depending upon the stage configuration, a sound stage for student television productions, a scene shop, a wardrobe room and dressing rooms. The design concept centers on transparency of the south and east sides of the building – giving passersby a sense of the vitality and creativity happening within. |

Changing colored LED lighting and images projected over the main entry doors further add to the energy of the building. Next door, the team designed renovations of the historic Stables Theater to better accommodate a large costume shop and theater classrooms.
