On Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 the voters of the Vernonia School District approved a $13 million bond measure to help pay for a new $37 million K-12 school campus. As The Oregonian reported:

"The disaster-weary residents of Vernonia did something that not many Oregonians are willing to do in hard economic times.

They voted to increase their property taxes. And in doing so, by a solid 3-2 margin, they earned the respect and broad support of other Oregonians who will now be asked to contribute financially to the struggling community's effort to build a new, flood-safe school.

The new school will be perched on a hillside above the town's flood plain, where a 2007 flood destroyed what was left of Vernonia's schools after a 1996 flood."

Boora is now moving ahead with design and documentation for the 150,000-square-foot project. Designed with integrated, high efficiency systems, the school will aim for LEED Platinum certification.
